IDF Thwarts Terror Attack in Northern Gaza Strip, 2 Dec 2010

Overnight, an IDF force identified a number of armed Palestinians near the security fence in the Northern Gaza Strip. An IAF aircraft, accompanied by an IDF ground force using tank shells, fired towards the militants, identifying a hit. No casualties were caused amongst IDF forces.

Since the beginning of 2010, approximately 100 different terror-related incidents took place near the security fence surrounding the Gaza Strip, an average of an incident every three days.

The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for maintaining the calm in the Gaza Strip and for any terrorist activity emanating from it. The IDF will also continue to respond harshly to any attempt to use terror against the State of Israel.

Update: IDF soldiers searching the area of last night’s incident in the northern Gaza Strip discovered the bodies of two terrorists of the Islamic Jihad organization, and on them light weapons, uniforms and an explosive device.
