Islamic Jihad Militant Responsible for Death of IDF Officer and Soldier killed in Fire Exchange, 17 Aug 2010

Earlier today, in a joint IDF-ISA activity against the terror organization Islamic Jihad in the area of Khan Yunis, Basem Da’ama, was killed.  Da’ama, a resident of Absan, was a prominent field operative who took part in the March 26th fire exchange which resulted in the deaths of Maj. Eliraz Peretz and SSgt. Ilan Sviatkovsky.

An IDF force identified a group of Palestinian militants planting an explosive device near the security fence and opened fire at them, resulting in the death of one militant. One IDF soldier was lightly injured in the incident.

Terrorist organizations generally use the area near the fence in order to plant explosives, plan attacks, and kidnapping attempts, a fact that explains the IDF’s precaution in the area.
