IDF Deputy Chief of the General Staff Departs for Official Work Visit in Germany, 16 Aug 2010

IDF Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Maj. Gen. Benny Ganz, departed a short while ago for an official four-day work visit, as the guest of German colleague, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the German Military, Vice Admiral Wolfram Kuhn. The two will discuss various defense challenges and the situation in the Middle East.

During the visit, Maj. Gen. Ganz is to visit the German Military’s Operational Command, as part of the military cooperation between the two countries. In addition, Maj. Gen. Ganz and his son are to visit the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp where they will place a bouquet of flowers and say the Kaddish (a Jewish prayer) in commemoration of his mother’s family who perished in the Holocaust. The head of the Jewish community in Hanover, the local Rabbi and members of the local community will also attend the ceremony.

Head of the Strategic Division, Brigadier General Yossi Heymann, whose father, Avraham Heymann, is a survivor of the Bergen Belsen Concentration Camp, will accompany the Deputy Chief of the General Staff throughout his visit.
