Five Israeli civilians were murdered tonight in a deadly terror attack that occurred in the Israeli community of Itamar.
IDF soldiers have been searching the area for suspects, and security inspections are being held at all crossings in the area.
GOC Central Command, Maj. Gen. Avi Mizrahi, arrived at the scene of the attack earlier this morning, stating his condolences to the family, the people of Itamar, and the entire Judea and Samaria community.
“We suffered a horrific terror attack tonight,” he said, “An innocent family; a father, a mother and three of their children were murdered in the middle of the night by cowardly, despicable terrorists. Rest assured, we are on a hunt after the perpetrators, and we will quickly catch them.”
The IDF Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, also arrived at the scene earlier. He visited the home of the family, consoled the grandparents and joined in on a security assessment with Maj. Gen. Mizrahi.
UPDATE: As of this morning (March 13), the IDF continues to search for the assailants and the weapons used in Friday’s deadly terrorist attack. Searches will take place around the community of Itamar and the village of Awarta.
In addition, the IDF and security forces have heightened their presence in the area adjacent to the funeral’s proceedings.
GOC Central Command, Maj. Gen. Avi Mizrahi, has arrived at Awarta village and is working with the forces on the scene.
